Privacy has become a central concern for Americans confronted with threats such as identity theft that could only be imagined a generation ago. As Chair of the Judicial Proceedings Committee, Senator Frosh oversees most Senate legislation dealing with this important issue. He has sponsored bills protecting the privacy of citizens’ personal information in Motor Vehicle Administration files and authorizing Maryland’s Attorney General to prosecute violators of Federal telephone solicitation regulations. Recently, the Judicial Proceedings Committee approved legislation establishing a task force to recommend identity theft remedies, beefing up the original bill at Senator Frosh’s recommendation to pay specific attention to protecting social security numbers.

Recent Privacy legislation:

SENATE BILL 387 (1999 session) : Privacy Protection Act of 1999

SENATE BILL 88 (2004 session) : Maryland Telephone Consumer Protection Act

HOUSE BILL 818 (2005 session) : Task Force to Study Identity Theft.

SENATE BILL 486 (2006 session): Consumer Protection - Personal Information Protection Act
